Helloo lovely readers! Today I am adding to my plant profiles. This is a series where I share my research and UPG regarding a plant. The plants I mention in this series are plants that grow in my region. Therefore they might not be readily available for everyone. I highly encourage you to form relationships with plants native to you, rather than plants that are inaccessible or grow elsewhere.

One of the things that I want to incorporate into my practice, is to form a bond with a new plant ally and work closely with it over the course of a lunar cycle. This means that on or around the new moon, I will pick an herb that I want to work closely with and research its history, folklore and traditional & modern practice. Then during the waxing moon, I will craft and meditate with the plant in regards to growth and attracting. On the full moon, as my bond heightens, I will charge said herb under the moonlight or choose to incorporate it in a big ritual. As the moon wanes, I will focus on meditations and crafts with the plant in regards to letting go and releasing. During this process my book of shadows will become my biggest ally, as I journal my experiences and gnosis.

Today I would like to present you all with a recent plant ally of mine. It all started back in April during a walk in the forest with a friend of mine. The divine purple flowers of the plant caught my eye (and pollinators seem to love the purple bell shaped flowers too!). I made the both of us stop and I observed the plant, during which I made a few notes and promised myself to look for the plant closer to where I live, so I could go for frequent visits. The next day I went to a park with which I have formed a connection. I find it easier to connect with plant spirits in places where I have connected with the genus loci or land spirits. And low and behold, there it was, Comfrey in all it’s beautiful glory. The pictures of this blogpost are from that visit. My research and experimentation with the plant are far from done, but here is what I’ve learned from the plant so far and what the books have to say about it. This plant profile will thus be a mixture of literature and personal gnosis. To be honest, it was hard to find information in books on this plant. Although Comfrey quite literally grows everywhere, since it’s hard to get rid of and distributes itself quite well, many modern witches glance over this herb. Most of my literary information on this plant is derived from Nigel G. Pearsons’ walking the tides.
